ScreenSaver
A Library for Your Screenshots
Move your screenshots out of your photo library and into a library of their own and search by keywords and embedded text.
Coming soon to the App Store
For iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or later.
What it does
Your photo library goes back to being photos. Your screenshots get a place of their own.
Moving out of Photos
-
Copied, checked, then moved
Every screenshot is copied at full quality and read back to make sure it’s intact. Only then is it removed from Photos, and iOS asks you first.
-
Screen recordings too
Screen recordings move across along with your screenshots.
-
Keep Originals in Photos
Turn it on to copy everything without removing anything from Photos.
-
Built for big libraries
Tens of thousands of screenshots, no problem. Imports keep going after you leave the app, with progress on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.
Finding things
-
Search the words in your screenshots
ScreenSaver reads the text in every screenshot, on your iPhone, so you can find one by what it says.
-
Search by date
Try “March 2021”, “last month” or “yesterday”, or mix a date in with words, like “invoice 2023”.
-
Browse like Photos
Pinch to change the size of the grid, show whole screenshots or neat squares, and sort by Date Captured or Recently Added.
Everywhere you are
-
A folder in iCloud Drive
Your library is a ScreenSaver folder in iCloud Drive, with a folder for each year, so it syncs across your devices and opens in the Files app and Finder.
-
Save from your Mac
Press ⇧⌘5, click Options and choose iCloud Drive › ScreenSaver. Mac screenshots then show up in the app on their own.
-
Search on every device
The text that’s been read is saved with your library, so your other devices can search straight away.
-
Your theme
Automatic, Light or Dark.
Support
ScreenSaver is made by one person. Questions and ideas are always welcome.

Where are my screenshots kept?
In the ScreenSaver folder in your iCloud Drive, sorted into a folder for each year and named by the date they were taken, the way a Mac names screenshots. If iCloud Drive is off, they’re kept on your iPhone, in On My iPhone › ScreenSaver in the Files app. You can check which in Settings › Library Location.
Will it delete anything without asking?
No. Screenshots are removed from Photos in batches, and iOS asks you to confirm each one. Removed screenshots stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days. If you say no, the copies from that batch are thrown away, so nothing ends up in both places.
Why does it need full access to Photos?
To find the screenshots and screen recordings in your library. With access to selected photos only, it can’t see them.
Why can’t search find a screenshot?
It may not have been read yet. ScreenSaver reads screenshots, newest first, while it’s open and while your iPhone is charging. Search shows how many are left.
What if an import stops part way?
It picks up where it left off the next time you open ScreenSaver, without copying anything twice.
